Stephen is a 2007 graduate of Mays Business School at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He began his career as a part-time teller while attending A&M and after graduating went into the banking business climbing the corporate ladder from junior loan analyst to VP of Commercial Lending.
After eight years of banking he chose a career change with a brief stint crunching numbers for an industrial pump company, then deciding to start his own financial planning practice in San Antonio, Texas. As his practice grew he noticed an overwhelming concern from parents about the daunting price of college.
It was then that he decided to start My College Solutions with partner Jaime Chavez who was very well versed in college planning and student loan repayment strategies.
WHY COLLEGE PLANNING
When I was a junior in high school my father, the primary breadwinner, passed away suddenly from a heart attack. A few months later, in midst of our family shakeup, I was sitting at our home computer (with AOL dialup) filling out a FAFSA with no help and absolutely no idea how to read a tax return or how financial aid worked.
I was absolutely blessed to have been ranked 15th in my class which qualified me for many scholarships that helped fund some college costs, but none the less student loans were by far the most accessible and relied on form of payment. As I write this I still have student loans.
I want to make it my life mission to help all families with college bound kids lower the cost of college, increase their financial aid, and graduate with the lowest amount of loans possible.
No parent or guardian or teenager should be without guidance when making arguably their largest and most important purchase of their lives.
